Frozen Meals and Autonomy

Have you ever come home from a long, exhausting day and dreamed that dinner would magically appear on the table? With everything on your plate, figuratively, it can be challenging to find time to fill your literal plate. The answer you’ve been looking for may be already prepared, packaged, and waiting for you. Keep reading to explore the solid connection between frozen meals and autonomy.

What Is a Frozen Meal?

Unfortunately, many people falsely accept common misconceptions regarding frozen food. Before we dive into the truths and tales surrounding these popular meals, it is important to begin with a basic understanding of frozen food.

The earliest complete frozen meals were served to military and civilian airplane passengers in 1945. Society has strengthened its ability to maintain food quality and flavor as time and technology have progressed. Today, frozen meals for all occasions are packaged and ready to eat. They incorporate a variety of food groups and nutrients when properly made. With little to no preparation time or effort for the consumer, these meals are convenient and affordable options.

Frozen Meals and Autonomy: Myths vs. Reality

Despite the undeniable benefits of frozen food, some people avoid these meals based on preconceived notions. The truth is many of these stereotypes are based on rumors and biased judgments. However, when frozen meals are correctly prepared and packaged, they can offer even more healthy nutrients than the “fresh” food available to the public.

The National Frozen and Refrigerated Food Association has researched some common claims regarding frozen meals. Let’s take a look at a few of these statements and dig a little deeper beyond the surface:

#1. Myth: Frozen foods contain unnecessary additional preservatives.

  • Reality: Quick freezing is the most accepted way to preserve.

#2. Myth: Frozen meals are high in sodium

  • Reality: Sodium functions mainly as a flavor enhancer. It is not necessary as a preservative in frozen meals. With LifeSpring Home Nutrition, you even have the power to opt for lower-sodium options.

#3. Myth: The best-known method of eating “farm-to-table” is fresh produce.

  • Reality: “Fresh” produce can travel for weeks before reaching its destination. Food maintains its vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and flavor when harvested and frozen at peak ripeness.

#4. Myth: Frozen foods will derail specialized diets and meal plans.

  • Reality: The option to buy frozen produce year-round gives you constant access to healthy foods. Not to mention, many frozen meals are pre-portioned to guide and support your goals and needs.

Flexibility With Frozen Meals and Autonomy

A fulfilling life does not revolve around meals; instead, meals should revolve around the lifestyle you are working to build. Frozen meals can offer the independence and autonomy you deserve. With abundant meal frozen meal options, there are endless possibilities.

Thanks to the intentional design of frozen food storage, many meals display important nutritional information. If you require or prefer dietary accommodations, there is no better way to ensure you are receiving what you want and need. Frozen meals are prepared and packaged for you so you can safely and confidently switch things up and try new foods.

If you are not in the mood for a certain meal, simply leave it in the freezer and heat up something else. The lengthened storage time of frozen meals greatly increases your flexibility and options. For example, the CDC’s guidelines for cold food storage state that fresh poultry should stay in the refrigerator for no more than two days, while frozen poultry can be stored in the freezer for up to a year.

Reduce Waste With Frozen Meals and Autonomy

Not only can frozen meals enhance your quality of life and health, but they can support the world around you. How often do your leftovers end up in the trash? According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, “In the United States, food waste is estimated at between 30-40 percent of the food supply.” Food waste is a significant environmental, social, and economic issue in America.

Many households consist of only a few people; frozen meals come in individualized sizes for this exact reason. Single-serving dishes allow each family member to have their favorite foods without needing to prepare unnecessary amounts of each item. Even if you don’t use the entire package, you can store the extra food in the freezer for another day. Save time, money, and energy with frozen meals.

Prepackaged foods can also reduce the risk of food contamination and preparation errors. The cooking directions allow for a simple, straightforward experience.
