The Causes and Effects of Food Choice

Isaac Newton’s “Third Law of Action and Reaction” states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The same is true when it comes to the causes and effects of each food choice we make. There can be little doubt that we are heavily influenced into choosing the foods we eat. Also, we must realize that we are wholly affected once we eat those foods.

What Are Some of the Causes of Food Choice?

Many people would be surprised to discover how big and influential food marketing is. It is a multi-billion dollar industry that has long had the focus on profits over their clientele’s health and wellness. The good news is that this is slowly starting to shift, but the keyword is “slowly.”

According to the peer-reviewed journal, Nutrition Reviews, “The food manufacturing and retailing industries have evolved tremendously and now include numerous innovative and fast-growing organizations that are either nonprofit or with strong concerns for public health and the environment. However, the majority of the food eaten in developed countries is still manufactured and distributed by traditional for-profit, and often publicly listed, companies. For-profit food marketers are not focused on making people fat but on making money.”

One of the other primary reasons people make food choices is that their health and wellness demands it. For example, people who discover that they are diabetic must either choose to change how they eat or continue down the path of diabetic detriment. The good news is that people in this situation quickly see the positive effects of new food choices.

What Are the Positive Effects of Food Choice?

The positive effects of one’s elective food choice are vast and varied. The primary positive effect is that good food choices equal longer lives with fewer medical complications. Ultimately, good food choices correlate to a better quality of life.

The following are just a few more of the benefits that positive food choices can bring:

  • Healthier heart rate and lower blood pressure
  • Improved energy levels
  • Less chances of anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses
  • A more positive outlook on life
  • Improved hair, skin, and nails
  • Better cognitive functioning
  • Improved emotional balance
  • Increased physical wellness and stamina

As one can see, these benefits are essential for living a fuller longer life. However, making poor food choices can create the exact opposite of those benefits.

What Are the Negative Effects of Food Choice?

Negative food choice should not be taken lightly. The fact of the matter is that unhealthy food choice can lead to chronic diseases and premature death. These choices can also greatly reduce one’s quality of life.

The following are just some, but not all, of the negative consequences that can come from poor food choice:

  • Increased likelihood of obesity and diabetes
  • Greater potential for acquiring chronic fatal diseases like cancer or heart disease
  • Increased likelihood of anxiety, stress, depression, and other mental illnesses
  • Less self-confidence and lower self-worth
  • A more negative outlook on life
  • Greater potential for eating disorders and substance use disorder (SUD)
  • Trouble focusing
  • Poor skin, hair, and nails
  • Having trouble with cognitive functioning

The good news is that no matter how far one has gone down the rabbit hole of negative food choices, there is always a chance to turn things around. That is the beauty of “choice.”

Making the Right Food Choices Moving Forward

Isaac Newton also said, “Truth is ever to be found in simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things.” Many people don’t change their food choices because they are understandably confused. This can be attributed to the aforementioned food marketing industry.

Many people don’t have the proper information and support to make good choices. This is where LifeSpring Home Nutrition and medically tailored meals (MTM) can help. No longer do people need to focus on the labels of their foods. Instead, they just need to focus on the foods they enjoy. LifeSpring Home Nutrition will take care of the rest.

The Vital Importance of Food Choice at LifeSpring Home Nutrition

The Greek philosopher Aesop once wrote, “A crust eaten in peace is better than a banquet partaken in anxiety.” Food choices do not need to bring about anxiety. Food choices should always bring about joy and excitement.

Here at LifeSpring Home Nutrition, we take food choice very seriously. This is why we remain family-owned, operated, and involved in every stage of the food-to-client process. We ensure quality from the meal planning to the kitchen to the packaging. Then the result is carefully delivered by our own people, right to our client’s doors.

Because we can help, there is no reason for negative food choice to control a person’s life anymore. With LifeSpring Home Nutrition, people can take control back. We help people in any situation make the positive choices that will enable them to live life to the fullest.

How we live affects our food choices, and our food choices affect how we live. The concept of “food as choice” is critical for one to both enjoy what they eat and maintain a healthy and balanced menu. It is also important to understand just how people determine what to eat and what influences these decisions. If you feel like you or someone you love can benefit from healthy, medically tailored meals (MTM) with convenient home delivery at affordable prices, we can help. I had a catastrophic event requiring a long hospital stay and at discharge my HMO offered Lifespring meal services. Initially, I was offered a puree diet and then as I improved a regular diet. Staff were kind, patient, and their supervisor, Christina was extremely accommodating. This is an amazing company who goes the extra mile to ensure patients receive their meals promptly. The food is delicious with a variety of meals. I would highly recommend Lifespring.
